At 4:40am on Saturday, November 23, President John F. Kennedy's body was brought back to the White House. The Navy ambulance carrying the flag draped casket drove through the northwest gate to the north portico. President Kennedy’s body was returned to the White House East Room and placed on the Lincoln Catafalque, where it lay in repose.
