Sue Lawley interview's the matinee idol Sir Dirk Bogarde, a term he would not agree with, where he reflects on his early painful life in Glasgow and his career. He reveals why he moved to the south of France and reasons for returning home to England. An intensely private man he talks about his life long friend and companion Anthony Forwood whose died of Cancer and resenting the English press for implying something other than a platonic relationship. He reveals his not afraid to die and tells a funny story about the showing of the film Death In Venice in America and the composer Gustav Mahler.
