Porcelain artists often work on plaster bats to help the base to dry out faster, so that it catch up with the drying rim. Antoinette Badenhorst always throw her translucent sculpted vessels on plaster bats and she teaches her students in “Understanding porcelain” virtual class how to throw porcelain, how to alter the clay and how to carve porcelain to perfection. Buying plaster bats can be expensive, so she started to invent her own.
