The Ford Escort name has it's roots back in the 50's in the UK, and in 1981 it came to the US as one of Ford's "World Cars". It went on to be a best-seller through the 80's, was redesigned into 3 generations, and then abruptly cancelled in 2000 and replaced with the Focus.
