The Whiskey Crusaders review Brother's Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey which comes in at 80 proof. It is made at MGP which came out in 2021 after making many experiments to see which they liked the most. It is made up of 3 distinct mash bills that are hand selected into a small batch of 135 barrels which becomes a four-grain bourbon when they are blended together. It has a final mash bill of 65% corn, 22% rye and 13% wheat & barley but not broken down beyond that. It has a 3-day fermentation. It is distilled on a column then run through a Pot Still Doubler with the barrel entry point into the barrel at 120 proof. The barrels use a 30 second char #2 on the heads and a 55 second char #4 on the staves of American White Oak. It is a minimum 4 years old using glacial-aquifer as the water source through limestone. They wanted to appeal to the every day drinker with their first easy drinker and have now sold over 100k cases since 2021.
Brother’s Bond was created in 2021 by Ian Somerhalder who grew up in Louisiana started acting at 10 and was cast in Vampire Diaries with Paul Wesley in 2009 who was born Pawel Tomasz Wasilewski but changed his name in 2005. Paul spent a third of each year in his parents native Poland growing up. Both credit their grandfathers for giving them their first drinks. They play Damon and Stefan Salvatore who are brothers on the show who share many drinks of bourbon after a hunt or fight and for just about any other reason on it as well. The two became very close in real life like the brothers they play on the show which is why they call it Brother’s Bond. Amazingly this whiskey came out 2 years after Vampire Diaries ended. They are both very involved in the creation of the blend and their path was paved with Woodford Reserve while flying Delta home from shooting Vampire Diaries along with Bulleit, Jefferson’s Maker’s Mark, Angel’s Envy, and Basil Hayden. They put many blends together before selecting this one and know where to look in the rick house for certain recipes depending on time of year distilled. You will find them messing with beakers and flasks constantly experimenting which will eventually include older expressions that are currently aging, finishes, unique mash bills, bottled in bond, single barrels, new cask strength versions and some wild blends that do not exist in a category yet. They have also released a rye and cask strength bourbon. A lot of the profits also go into sustainable agriculture.
