After the capitulation on May 8, 1945, Germany is like a rubble. With the help of aerial photographs of Allied military, the documentation looks for the first time from above on the destruction.

Thousands of bombs fall on German cities in the last months of the war, including Dresden, Würzburg and Mainz. Hundreds of thousands of people lose their homes, their families and often their courage to live. In the summer of 1945 they are looking into an uncertain future.

Because in the cities there is chaos. Hitler's war had sparked a dynamic of violence that was far beyond capitulation. Using the example of the cities of Berlin, Dresden and Cologne, the documentary looks at the lives of Germans among the rubble and compares the footage of the Western powers from the summer of 1945 with photographs from the 1930s and the present, 70 years later.
