Vidyasagar setu is the second longest cable - stayed bridge in India. Vidyasagar Setu, also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge, over the Hooghly river state of west Bengal in India, linking the cities of Kolkata and Howrah. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 20 May 1972. The bridge took more than 20 years to complete and cost 388 crore Indian currency. The bridge is named after the 19th-century Bengali educationist reformer Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar.
