Our campaign is to build hygienic, low cost, portable urinals that can be set up by unskilled labor in public areas where people urinate in the open frequently. A prototype unit of such urinals has already been made and installed at a common urinating spot (AIIMS) and has got tremendous response from the locals of the area who used to suffer due to bad odor, mosquitoes/flies and contamination. The urinals are connected to the sewers through manholes to ensure correct disposal of the waste. The Urinals are made from 20 Litre water jars (biodegradable recycled plastic) with tin sheds to cover a unit. These urinals are economical (under $50 per urinal and $400 for a unit i.e. a set of 5 urinals) and can be installed, maintained and replaced very easily.
