24 September 1487
As a young man, Nanak married Sulakhani, daughter of Mūl Chand (aka Mula) and Chando Raṇi. They were married on 24 September 1487, in the town of Batala, and would go on to have two sons, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Chand (or Lakhmi Das).

To instil his independence, she searched for a wife for him. Bebe Nanaki along with her husband found a woman, Sulakhni Chona, for Nanak to marry. Since Bebe Nanaki had no children of her own she loved and helped raise her brother's children, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Chand.

Hundreds of devotees participated in the religious procession which started from Gurudwara Dehra Sahib, where the marriage of Guru Nanak Dev was solemnized.

Sikh marriage is known as Anand Karaj which means a 'Ceremony of Bliss'. Features of the wedding ceremony include: The couple and their guests then enter the prayer room of the gurdwara and the marital ceremony is performed by the granthi . This takes place in front of a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib.

The name most widely used for God by Sikhs is Waheguru , which means 'wondrous enlightener'. Sikhs believe that there is only one God, who created everything. They believe that Waheguru must remain in the mind at all times.

His parents wanted to do his Janeu (sacred thread) sanskar which is a religious practice among hindus. But he refused to wear Janeu (sacred thread) during sacred thread ceremony due to following reasons: He said many people were wearing the Janeu but simultaneously their actions were not in interest of the society.

Guru Nanak went to the river Bain to wash, as normal, and did not reappear for three days. On his return, Guru Nanak explained his revelation of God.

Rejecting Sanskrit (which was called dev bhasha, the language of the gods), Guru Nanak used Punjabi (lok bhasha, people's language) to communicate his egalitarian teachings. He attracted a following among the lower castes, mainly Hindus but also some converts to Islam.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji married Sulakhni by taking four rounds around the sacred fire instead of seven. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the founder of the Sikhism. According to the traditional Nanakshahi calendar, Guru Nanak was born on Poornima Tithi (full moon day) in the month of Katak.

Arranged marriage is very much the norm in Sikhism. Dating is discouraged and premarital relations are forbidden by the Sikh code of conduct. Romance between couples is something which takes place after the Anand Karaj (wedding) and occurs behind closed doors

It is not uncommon to find Hindus at prayer meetings in Sikh temples, and vice versa. Although Sikh gurus vehemently opposed the rigid Hindu caste system, most Sikhs still practice it. Hindus and Sikhs intermarry freely both in India and in Canada; indeed, five members of my own family are married to Sikhs.

The word Hindu is an exonym, and while Hinduism has been called the oldest religion in the world, many practitioners refer to their religion as Sanātana Dharma (Sanskrit: सनातन धर्म, lit.

Both religions originated in the Indian subcontinent — Hinduism about 3,000 years ago and Sikhism in the second half of the last millennium. While Hinduism is considered polytheistic, Sikhism is a monotheistic religion
