Amiens is a commune in the Somme department in Hauts-de-France in northern France.

Historic capital of Picardy, it is, with its 134,706 inhabitants (at the last census in 2019) called Amiénois, the main city of the department, the second in the region after Lille and the twenty-seventh of France. Located inside the triangle Paris - London - Brussels, it is the center of the metropolitan pole of Grand Amiénois with nearly 400,000 inhabitants1,2.

First city of France in number of UNESCO heritage inscriptions3, Amiens is famous for its Notre-Dame Cathedral, a jewel of Gothic art and one of the largest cathedrals in the world4.

Nicknamed the "little Venice of the North" because of the many canals that cross it and the hortillonnages (set of floating gardens covering 300 hectares), Amiens offers a rich heritage and picturesque neighborhoods, witnesses of a two-thousand-year history. Since 1992, the "City of Art and History" label has rewarded the protection and enhancement of this heritage.

The contemporary image of the city is strongly linked to three activities that radiate beyond its borders: its status as the historic capital of Picardy, its university with more than 26,000 students5 and the vitality of its cultural life driven by infrastructure and events of national scope.
