Interested in making soap on a budget? You can get your oils from the grocery store, and save money.

MY RECIPE:
30% Canola Oil ($3-4 at grocer)
30% Coconut Oil ($8-9 at Sams, or $5-6 at grocer for less product)
40% Lard ($2-3 at grocer)
Lye ($8-9 for a 2lb bottle at Essential Depot)
Distilled Water ($1-2 at the grocer)
Fragrance - optional (anywhere from $2-6/2 oz at Wholesale Supplies Plus, or $3-4/1 oz at Nature's Garden Candles)
Color - optional ($5.50/1oz. jar at Mad Micas)

TOOLS:
Mold - free
Stick Blender - optional
Heat source to melt oils (microwave or stovetop)
Containers to hold oils
Spatulas to mix

Based on how much of each ingredient I used (I only used a small amount of a lot of what I already had, and not quite the whole lard block), This batch cost me around $5.05 not including fragrance or color. Including those, it was about $7.75 for the batch. I got 7 bars from the batch, making each soap cost only $1.10 each, or $0.72 each if not including fragrance or color!
