Koos Scholten and his good friend Frank Hendriks are co-owners of the tugboat Assistent from 1907. In the engine room stands a Stork Ricardo BR 213 from 1962. ‘The power of these three cylinders is 141 real horse power. That’s different from fast revvers, because with those we call it mule power,’ says skipper Scholten, who has been an engineer on sea ships. ‘This engine is a very reliable machine. We never had any trouble with it. Some years ago we’ve had a good check-up.’ In the video, skipper Scholten shows the starting of the Stork, after which he and skipper Hendriks demonstrate some maneuvering on a water alongside the river Lek. Incidentally, the Assistent has been sold to a new owner.
