Starting at the Queenstown Wharf on the Wolostoq (St. John) River between Gagetown and Grand Bay-Westfield, I paddle along the upper side of Long Island and explore Lower Musquash Lake inside of Lower Musquash Island. Crossing the main river channel poses some risks. Once I get to the lake I find lots of ducks, geese, red-winged blackbirds, and beavers. I also get the chance to watch bluebacked herring spawning in the shallows.
