Joyland Tarumae was the first comprehensive leisure facility in Hokkaido, opened in 1975. In 1979, the Hokkaido Wild Animal Park was opened, but in April 1981, it was discovered that lions had died en masse due to poor care, and the management company effectively went bankrupt due to the negative image of the park. Another company continued to operate the park, but further mass deaths of animals en masse led to disciplinary measures and inspections by the Hokkaido government, and the park closed in February 1987.
The main buildings have already been demolished, but we went deep into the forest to look for traces of what was left behind.
