I wrote Lost Boy about Mae La refugee camp in Thailand where I was born and lived until I was 5. I recently got the chance to go back to Thailand and revisit the camp. I brought food and gifts to one of the elementary schools in the camp. There are 55,000 people who live there.

Eh La who I collab with on the song was also born in Mae La Camp and still lives there today. He is a very popular rapper in Thailand with videos with millions of views. I want the world to know about these incredibly talented artists.

When I came to the US I read books and saw movies about Peter Pan. Peter Pan is probably my favorite childhood story. I thought about the Lost Boys from Peter Pan and the kids in the camp who need a fantasy childhood – one where they aren’t hungry or suffering. I wish they could fly out of the camp and be saved like I was.

I will be going back to Mae La Camp and all nine of the refugee camps on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Chinatown Runner and Ler Mu Dex are going with me – it will be their first visit to Thailand. They just became US citizens and got their passports.

We want to visit the camps and give back. We want to give hope to the kids who were once us.
