In 1950, Daimler announced a new type of underfloor-engined chassis mainly for the municipal market in the UK. It was called the Freeline. This new bus did not do as well as expected in Daimler's stronghold, the home municipal transport market. In fact, it did terribly.

But, it did find more success in the coach market, and most especially, as an export.

The Freeline was criticized for being too heavy and too engineered. Which helped it in markets where roads may not have been as well-paved as in the UK.

The Freeline was also like a pre-Worldmaster bus, even though it was not intended to be the same.

See and hear the story of the Daimler Freeline!!
