Free verse poetry is an exciting realm of literature because it can take almost any form, but this sometimes makes free verse poems tricky to analyze. In this video, I'll show you how to approach any free verse poem by analyzing key components such as diction, tone, poetic devices, and structure.
Together, we'll annotate a real free verse poem ("Eagle Poem" by U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo) step by step. At the end, we will identify three key themes discussed in the poem.
