A marine biologist talks about one of the most incredible adaptations that allow sea otters to thrive in the cold waters of the North Pacific Ocean. POCKETS! Sea otters have loose skin pouches under each of their forearms that act like pockets. Sea otters use these pockets to store food and rocks, especially rocks that prove to be great at breaking into the hard shells of clams, mussels, and even crab. Having pockets allows sea otters to free up their paws for other things, like grooming, swimming, and shoveling food into their mouths!
