When I signed with Sony Music in 2009, we agreed on an album with equal parts originals and covers. I was thrilled to have 50% creative control as a songwriter, especially since I'd been writing songs since I was 11 years old.

However, things took a turn when they changed the contract to feature more than 75% covers. When I expressed my concerns, I received phone calls from Sony Music agents trying to convince me that it would be for the better, which gave me a bad feeling for expressing myself. I realized that a fair business discussion wasn't possible.

So, I persevered, completed the job, took what I could from the experience, and left to build my own empire. It was a tough pill to swallow, especially since I wrote 'Like a Rainbow' during that time – a song that could have fit perfectly on the album 'Bullrider' (originally a different title).

I performed it at almost every concert, and I heard you singing the lyrics back. My family danced to it. This song collected so many memories and emotions that I decided to place it as track 5 on my new album to honor my dad's birthday. I always reserve either position 5 or 10 for him, as he was born on January 5th and passed away on December 10th.

'Like a Rainbow' feels like it was left behind, but it's still remembered and loved by many. I'm glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves. I can finally share with you the version that I had created in my mind 15 years ago.
