Just a quick video demonstrating how playing intervals, directly from the "easy" middle register into the extreme upper registers, can help trumpeters to avoid playing too tight when ascending. Playing scales allows the player lots of time to over-tighten the lips as they ascend, but large quick intervals can really help the player to achieve a more open sensation in the upper register.
