The character select screen claims that "beginners are safer to select" the fighter, but it's lying. He's arguably the hardest character to clear the game with, having the shortest attack range and no special abilities. He can buy shields to block projectiles, but I opted not to use them because they increase the size of the fighter's hitbox. Against attacks that can't be blocked, shields actually make him an easier target.
