Mike picked up a $10 SainSmart 8 Channel DC 5V Relay Module, hooked it up to an Arduino micro controller (a Raspberry Pi should work, too!) and the next thing you know he's remotely controlling 8 electrical devices... it's like building an 8 channel remote, each relay on the board can handle some serious juice, up to 10A 230V AC, 30V 10A DC.
