The Námafjall Geothermal Area is located in Northeast Iceland, on the east side of Lake Mývatn. Like almost everything in Iceland, this particular area has a volcanic origin. At this area, also known as Hverir, you will see many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots, surrounded by sulphur crystals of many different colours.

The travel duration might be 30 mins and more, it depends on the weather, the tolerance of the smell, and whether you want to take a hike or not. I personally don't mind the sulphur smell, as it reminds me of hot springs, and fuji mountain in Japan.

Talking about hot spring, if you already go this far to Námafjall, you can go to Mývatn Nature bath, it's cheaper than blue lagoon, and the water is quite alike. (But if I have to choose between these two hot springs, blue lagoon is the best)

Entrance is FREE, need to pay Parking ♥️
