Bush Tetras Welcome Drummer Steve Shelley, Announce North American Shows & Premiere “Snakes Crawl” Video by Austin Julian-Sley

Bush Tetras are excited to welcome Steve Shelley, a New York-based drummer who truly needs no introduction. On top of recording and touring as a member of Sonic Youth since 1985 and working with countless other groups and projects, Steve founded the renowned Smells Like Records and is the operator of Sonic Youth’s excellent SYR and Goofin’ labels and helps curate the Sonic Youth archive.

After the loss of drummer & founding member Dee Pop last year, Bush Tetras are happy to find a path forward, working with a drummer that founding members Pat Place and Cynthia Sley have known for years. Along with RB Korbet on bass (who has also known Steve for years), the four shared a fast chemistry when rehearsing classics from the Tetras catalog and new material the band has been working on over the past year. As Cynthia Sley says, “We knew it would be impossible to replace Dee in many ways, but having Steve join us has been both comforting and invigorating. He just fit in seamlessly, like a missing puzzle piece. We can now see a future for the Bush Tetras.”

Bush Tetras are excited to play their first shows in support of the 'Rhythm and Paranoia' box set with their reinvigorated line-up. As Pat Place says, “It’s been nothing but fun playing with Steve and we are really excited about  our first official shows with him.” More shows will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

About 'Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras' Box Set

Flashes of light rarely burn for long. Bush Tetras exploded onto the New York scene in 1979 and flamed out just a few years later. Yet somehow this lightning-quick band has risen from their own ashes again and again for four decades. The spark that ignited Bush Tetras tapped into a deep grid of power, fueled by guitarist Pat Place, singer Cynthia Sley, and drummer Dee Pop.

That chemistry is palpable on 'Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras,' which features 29 songs across 3 LPs pressed onto 180-gram vinyl and remastered by Carl Saff, plus a 46-page book with never-before-seen photos, an original essay on the band by Marc Masters, and micro essays by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, R&B legend Nona Hendryx, The Clash’s Topper Headon, & more.

From the band’s earliest recordings to their current, vital-as-ever incarnation, Rhythm and Paranoia – for the first time ever – showcases the their unique, influential, and body-shaking meld of rock, punk, funk, reggae, and more in one cohesive, immersive, and meticulously constructed box set.
