10.30.2019 | 7:30 PM | FULLERTON - Residents were under mandatory evacuation orders after a fast-moving fire dubbed the "Castlewood Fire" broke out near homes, Wednesday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a vegetation fire burning near the intersection of Castlewood and Gilbert streets around 7:30 PM.

Crews arriving on scene located an approximately five acre fire burning in vegetation amid high-winds.

Firefighters worked to battle the blaze but high winds spread embers to nearby homes engulfing at least one palm tree directly above homes.

Residents frantically fled from their homes while an intensive firefight ensued.

Multiple aircraft were on scene and worked to contained the fire to approximately 15 acres.

A flare gun was discovered near the fire and has prompted an arson investigation.

No injuries were immediately reported.
