Today we are looking at the work of Frank O'Hara and his pivotal work "Why I am not a painter". The poem is an investigation of the limits of media, and how certain media has a better way of resonating than others. For instance, words and images can both communicate, but they do so in very differing ways. O' Hara dissects the minutiae of everyday life, and this instance is no different. In the poem, Why I am not a painter, he discusses going to his friend, Mike Goldberg's studio, and over the course of multiple visits he sees the painting change, and Goldberg slows paints over the words he has added to the canvas.
