With my wife Dace we continue traveling through Eastern Europe to share it with you and we arrived in Albania, a surprising Balkan country that has coasts, mountains and an intense urban life.
We are in Durrës, the second largest city in Albania and an important seaport on the Adriatic Sea, with extensive beaches to enjoy the sun.
Founded in the 7th century BC. C. by Greek settlers, Durrës has a rich history reflected in its many historical monuments, including the Roman Amphitheater – Built in the 2nd century, which is one of the largest Roman amphitheaters in the Balkans.
Other historical attractions of the city are the Byzantine Walls built in the 6th century and the Roman Forum, a complex of buildings that includes a temple, a basilica and a market.
But Durrës is also known for its beautiful beaches, a paradise of white sand, crystal clear waters and lively atmosphere. The city has a 16 kilometer coastline with a wide variety of beaches to choose from, from quiet, family-friendly beaches to beaches with lively nightlife.
Some of the most popular beaches in Durrës are Durrës Beach, the largest and most popular in the city, with a length of 4 kilometers. It offers a wide range of services, such as umbrellas, sun loungers, restaurants and bars.
Golem Beach, a quiet and family beach with shallow waters, ideal for children. Ksamil Beach: A group of small islands with paradisiacal beaches, perfect for swimming, diving and snorkeling.
Also Lapë Beach, a virgin beach with crystal clear waters and an impressive natural environment and Shëngjin: A beach with a lively nightlife, full of bars and clubs. Overall, Durrës beaches offer something for everyone.
The best time to visit the beaches of Durrës is from June to September, when the weather is warm and sunny, although between late July and early August, the number of tourists can exceed the capacity of the infrastructure.
The water temperature varies from 20°C to 28°C during the summer season and prices for beach services vary depending on location and season, but are usually significantly cheaper than in Western Europe.
Although the official language is Albanian, English is widely spoken and you will also find many people who speak and understand Italian. The currency is the Albanian lek, which you can exchange without problems during your walks around the city.
Durrës is well connected by bus and ferry to other cities in Albania and to Italy and Greece. If you are looking for a beach holiday in Albania, Durrës is a great option.
For those who ask when this video was filmed, we tell them that we are in autumn, low season and on a weekday. In this same place a couple of months ago, crowds were gathering.
Enjoying a beautiful sunset in the Adriatic Sea just 100 kilometers from Italy and at moderate prices is an option that we recommend, so do not hesitate to think about Albania for your summer vacation.
The afternoon became a wave and we fell inside, it's time to rest again, tomorrow we have to walk again, since we will return. To Tirana.
