Sakura Watch May 3, 2024 - Ep 12 - Cherry blossom season ends this weekend in High Park. During today’s visit, the ground was adorned with more petals than the Sakura trees, which were now bare and displaying less than 25% of blossoms across the park. The changes in the trees appearance since my last visit was make all the more clear, with small clusters of blossoms still clinging to some branches, while others had already sprouted leaves and revealed the bare stems. In some areas, the amounts event varied wildly between trees that were next to each other. All in all, having one last look is worth the visit, even on a rainy day.

To me, there’s something about seeing the sole stems with its vibrant pink colour that has a certain beauty all of its own. Add to the mix of branches with fully intact blossoms, and you get a wonderful contrast of experiencing both the sakura hanami and the sakura fubuki as the petals gently fall in the breeze.

Though I should note there were a few randomly scattered trees appearing full, with most of its blossom intact. Plus the magnolias and other trees are also starting to bloom, which makes a visit this weekend more interesting.

When visiting the park, here are a few things you need to remember -
Don’t pick or break off any blossoms
Don’t pull down or shake the branches
Don’t climb, sit or stand on the trees
Don’t leave litter IN or around the trees
DO repsect the trees and the surrounding areas

And also note that vehicles are not allowed to enter the park during Peak Bloom or on weekends, so you will need to park on Bloor St or other street nearby.

So as another Sakura cherry blossom season winds down, I just wanted to give a thank you to everyone who follows the blog, watch videos, and helps spread the message. I appreciate you all, and I thank you all for watching, and keeping up with the blossoms and following along.

Your comments are always appreciated, so keep them coming, along with your questions, but as you saw in today’s update, I think is pretty much going to be the end of Yoshino cherry blossoms in High Park – an for most of the City for that matter. As this weekend will be the final petals will start falling down.

but there’s also the Fugenzo which are coming up soon, and that will be up in another report soon.

For now, just want to say thank you to everyone, see you again next time.

Watch for more updates soon.
