Arunachal Virtual Archive is a project funded by the ‪@InsideNatGeo‬ that introduced Virtual Reality as a nature education module for indigenous youth in Arunachal Pradesh in 2019.

The project is a collaboration between filmmakers, educators, and the forest departments of Pakke Tiger Reserve and Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh. It involved filming many common and some rare and important species using 360 cameras, and viewing these videos using VR headsets to make the experience immersive and interactive, something that isn’t possible with traditional video formats.

Responses from kids towards VR have been overwhelming during the trials, and Pakke and Eaglenest continue to implement the project at their Nature Interpretation Centres today.
