In this reading installment, we make our way to chapter 4 & 5.

Chapter 4 Summary:
Olivine races to catch a ride with Rooks, breathless as she asks him to take her to the river. Her burrow’s been broken into, and Hazel is in trouble—she has to get to Redwall, fast. Though Rooks is worried, he agrees to help, giving her some advice and supplies for the trip. Once she’s on the steamboat Moon Mist, reality sets in—she’s really going to Redwall to save Hazel. As the boat pulls away, she spots the jackrabbit lurking in the crowd, watching her closely, adding a chill to the already tense journey.

Chapter 5 Summary:
Olivine’s boat ride down the river takes her to the canyons as the sun rises, and she’s startled by a jackrabbit with a mangled ear who seems to appear out of nowhere. After docking at a bustling river port full of critters, wagons, and chaos, she makes her way through the crowd and boards a passenger wagon headed for Redwall. She’s relieved to be on her way but unnerved when the same jackrabbit gets on the wagon too. As the canyon walls rise around her, exhaustion takes over, and she falls asleep, unaware he’s still watching.

The description of the story is below.

Olivine is a quail.

All she wants is to enjoy her cozy burrow and build a successful jelly business. She doesn’t crave adventure like her best friend, Hazel, who is off exploring the canyons. But with Hazel gone, Olivine is miserable, and her jelly business isn’t doing so hot.

One day she finds her burrow ransacked and a desperate letter on her doorstep. Hazel is in peril! To save her friend, Olivine must deliver a mysterious map to the faraway city of Redwall. Never mind that she doesn’t know the first thing about travel and is terrified of heights.

Olivine soon discovers just how dangerous the canyons can be. But with the help of a savvy coyote, she may just save the day and learn what it means to be a true friend.
