The VW Bus was a truly revolutionary vehicle and became a symbol of the counterculture movement in the 1960s and 1970s. The ID. Buzz has taken inspiration from the icon we all know and love but only in terms of how it looks, which is a huge disappointment. Thanks=fully there is now a long wheel version which can be had as a no-cost option with five, six or seven seats, and is available with the larger battery pack offering a bigger range. We’ve got the SWB 5 seater in Style trim level on test which starts from almost £64,000. Is it a premium worth paying for with significantly cheaper options on the table from Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall? We find out.

What’s good?
Retro styling
Roomy and practical
More refined than competitors

What’s bad?
It’s not a camper
Drives like a van
Expensive
