This video concerning the History of Manchester and the Industrial revolution. From 1894 to 1972 Manchester Corporation generated Hydraulic power. This power was used by many factory's and warehouses in Manchester including the town hall, the Manchester Guardian and Smithfield Market. The Hydraulic power was pumped in up to 37 miles of pipes around the city and provided power to the then cottonopolis. The last pumping station is now the peoples history museum. I try to explain the system and conclude with its eventual decline in the late 1960'. We also take a look at a preserved Lancashire Boiler.
