A great prophet has arisen in our midst
and God has visited his people.

Gospel: Luke 7:11-17
Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. Then, when he had drawn near to the gate of the city, behold, a deceased person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord had seen her, being moved by mercy over her, he said to her, “Do not weep.” And he drew near and touched the coffin. Then those who carried it stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead youth sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Then fear fell over all of them. And they magnified God, saying: “For a great prophet has risen up among us,” and, “For God has visited his people.” And this word about him went out to all of Judea and to the entire surrounding region.

Reflection: Who in your life needs your compassion and hope today, and how can you let your faith in God's power inspire you to support and pray for them?

Prayer: Most compassionate Lord, You are always attentive to our needs and our sorrows. Your Heart is filled with compassion for all. Please give me a truly empathetic heart so that I will see those in need. As I do, fill me with hope and faith that You will pour forth Your mercy upon them so that I will become an intercessor for all. Jesus, I trust in You.
