We grow flowers and vegetables in Australia on our farm and it's Spring! I guess we are a homestead of sorts. Or heading in that direction, with a difference, everything must be beautiful! This week Moroni fixed my trailer plug for me, he built me a new one as the old one had rotted and stopped working. We do a big clean up before fire season, which means clearing off all of the debris, sticks, branches, burning rubbish piles and we still need to get to all of the long grasses in the paddock. I have been seed starting spring flowers and vegetables, which really won't be ready until Summer. Im a bit late getting to that, but I'm trying to be much more relaxed this season as I need to keep my stress levels low after suffering pretty bad burnout. For plant labels I cut up some Venetian blinds which work perfectly for us in the flower field garden. I go through what we have growing in the hot house, which are mainly seeds I started about 3 weeks ago and many have now germinated. Things like foxgloves, nasturtiums, artichokes, basil, pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, capsicum, chilli. Some haven't germinated yet and I'm not sure they will, so I've sown more seeds. Some new things like lupins, German chamomile, Hulk Asters. I walk you through how to start matricaria feverfew from cuttings. It's so quick and easy you just break off new shoots and poke them into moist soil. Keep that moist and in a few weeks the cuttings have rooted and your new plants can be popped into the garden. Ive been dividing Dahlias for DAYS. Im so over it, you can probably tell my my attitude when we go out to the studio. Some are not yet waking up so I'm soil forcing those dahlia tubers. It's easy, you just half burry the dahlia tubers in soil and keep it moist. The viable tubers will sprout from there and can then be planted into the garden.
