The Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spectabilis) is a stunning perennial known for its heart-shaped flowers that dangle gracefully from arching stems. To thrive, plant your Bleeding Heart in a spot with partial shade, as too much direct sunlight can cause the leaves to scorch. They prefer well-draining, slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter.

Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and keep the roots cool. During the growing season, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and vibrant blooms.

After flowering, the foliage may start to die back in mid-summer. This is normal, so don't be alarmed! You can trim back the yellowing leaves, and the plant will go dormant until the following spring. Protect the plant during winter with a layer of mulch, especially in colder climates. With proper care, your Bleeding Heart will bring beauty to your garden year after year.
