Last night, a collaborative effort involving the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Border Patrol, H.S.I., and the U.S. Coast Guard helped stop a smuggling attempt at the Sebastian Inlet.

Upon notification of a vessel stop by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, our Marine Unit swiftly responded to assist, discovering a vessel transporting 24 undocumented Haitian citizens, including men, women, and children.

Thanks to the seamless coordination between agencies, both captains of the vessel were detained and handed over to Federal authorities. Meanwhile, all 24 individuals were safely turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard.

We commend the tireless efforts of the F.W.C. and our dedicated law enforcement partners in upholding the integrity of our borders and safeguarding our communities. Together, we stand vigilant against illegal activities that threaten the safety and security of our nation.
