Liverpool native Elvis Costello performs Penny Lane for his childhood hero, Sir Paul McCartney, during a command performance at the White House where Sir Paul will receive the Gershwin Prize. While Elvis earns well-deserved applause for his rendition, the audience is clearly delighted by the contributions of Master Sergeant Matthew Harding of the President's Marine Corps Band who adds wonderful flourishes on the piccolo trumpet.

Footnote: A few years ago I met Master Sergeant Harding at an event in Washington, D.C. and shared with him that he has YouTube fans around the world. He told me he was given the sheet music that morning, had one rehearsal, and was hoping he would be able to rise to the occasion. I assured him he had.
