Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, known for his iconic performances in films like "Mrigayaa," "Disco Dancer," and "Prem Pratigya," was announced on Monday as the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema. The news was shared on X by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw. This recognition comes only a few months after Chakraborty, who is also a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), received the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award. In his message of congratulations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Chakraborty a "cultural icon" admired by people across generations.
In Odisha, sons living separately from their fathers are now eligible for pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, as per a recent announcement by the state’s Panchayati Raj Minister, Rabi Narayan Naik. This decision, revealed on Monday, is part of Odisha’s ongoing efforts to extend housing benefits. Under the revised selection guidelines for the fourth phase of the scheme, sons who no longer reside with their fathers can now apply for housing assistance.
