A special bonus episode from my 2022 East motorcycle tour. I crossed Lake Michigan onboard the S.S. Badger car ferry that evokes memories of the Panama Canal Company ship, the S.S. Cristobal. The S.S. Badger, launched in 1953, is the last coal powered steamer operating in US waters. It crosses Lake Michigan in 4 hours at an average speed of 15 knots - about the same speed the S.S. Cristobal traveled on it's ocean voyages between Colon Panama and New Orleans Louisiana. For those who lived in the Canal Zone during the 1950's, 60's, and 70's the S.S. Badger is a nostalgic trip with all the sounds, sights, and vessel feel of the S.S. Cristobal. Enjoy the voyage.
