On July 12-14, the annual "John Williams, Maestro of the Movies" concerts took place at the Hollywood Bowl, with the LA Phil performing music by John Williams and other great Hollywood composers. Maestro Williams had to cancel his appearance on the podium as he's recovering from a recent health issue, but his curated program was in the expert hands of David Newman, who guided the orchestra in rousing performances of Williams' scores, but also music from Alex North, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and a tribute for the centenary of Henry Mancini.

Among the novelties of this year, Williams prepared a 4-movement suite dedicated to his music regularly featured in TV programs of the US television network NBC, including the classic "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" (used on countless hours of Olympic coverage since 1984), the "Mission Theme" for NBC Nightly News, music for Sunday Night Football and the dramatic theme for the weekly morning show "Meet The Press," which has never been performed live before.
