in Tour of the New and Improved Photography Studio I go over the space that I and partners have been working on over the past 6 weeks. While our last studio was functional for headshots, solo portraits, and very small groups, we did often run into the limitations of a smaller space. We started searching for a new space around the end of 2020, and finally found this one in mid January of 2021. I quickly signed the lease and we got to work building the space out to our needs. The first thing I did was convert all the fluorescent panels to daylight LED (predictable, I know). Then we ripped out the drop ceiling. We had talented contractors come in to do things like paint, electrical, close up the area exposed above the drop ceiling, install a new floor, etc. My partners and I did things like build the prop storage shelves, drywall, set up the makeup area, polish up the bathroom, etc. There was a lot of waiting for necessary products to ship and arrive - slowed down due to strained supply chains.
This studio offers a number of improvements such as higher ceilings, hard floors, almost 3x the square footage, and better street visibility. We outfitted this studio with a number of improvements to our equipment including way more grip on wheels, electronic backgrounds, and a more refined selection of light modifiers to reduce confusion (aka, nothing Godox mount, only Bowens mount products).
