Set along the English Way, one of Galicia's busiest pilgrims' paths, 'On the Way to Santiago' is not about the path itself, but rather tells a story with a broader scope, that of Mirko and his traveling companion Giacomo, who are determined to realize the great dream they have kept in their drawer for years: to reach Santiago de Compostela by hiking. The journey is disrupted by various unforeseen events, leading the two young men to separate and live two parallel and distinct stories.
The docufilm exudes so many emotional moments that it becomes impossible not to find at least one that does not touch the soul of the viewer, regardless of whether one is a walking enthusiast or a total stranger to the subject. Its rich emotional charge, combined with an exceptional soundtrack, the unmistakable sympathy of Giacomo Vettori, and the well-established freak and irreverent narrative style of director Mirko Malavolta, make this film unique.
