If the SNP and the Greens choose to defend Michael Matheson, they will suffer at the ballot box on July 4, Douglas Ross said in a debate over Michael Matheson.

“If they choose to defend him and defend the indefensible, then it will be up to the voters across Scotland to judge on July 4 and looking at the gloomy faces on the SNP benches, I think they know what’s coming,” he said.

It is not enough for Michael Matheson to resign from Government, he must resign from Holyrood, Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has said.

Leading a debate on a motion urging the former health secretary to step down, Mr Ross said: “Resigning from the Cbinet, resigning from the Scottish Government is not enough.

“Michael Matheson should do the right thing and resign from the Parliament.”

He added: “I just cannot understand how MSPs on the SNP benches and indeed the Green benches… are willing to continue to support someone who has brought this institution, our Parliament, into such disrepute.”
