A Free Man From A Free People

I am a free man
of a free people
I live in my country
my family have been born
here from end to end
in our Gaulish country

I work the land
for a long time
I gather the fruits of the forest
I hunt the pig
the fish in the lake
with my father and my sister too

the stories of battles
every word of the poems
I learn the history of the country
the names of the stars
the trees and the hills
all the knowledge of the great world

I have a beautiful girl
with a golden heart
together we have built our house
there is born to us
to me and my woman
our big son, our little daughter

our people have gods
they guard our houses
Big Tóthath is their chief
with Mathron, Mapon, Taran
lord Táru Tri Garan
unhappiness far away through them

we dig to find
gold to guard
beautiful things we make with it
salt and iron
over calm rivers
with other people we trade

across the mountains of the south
people are leaving
they bring their power-hunger closer
they want our life
our gold so beautiful
and the spread legs of our warm women

they burn our lands
they kill our men
they take all property with them
they rape our children
destroy our walls
our throats red with the blood from them

I was a free man
from a free people
my people have died in our land
my family was murdered
my children and my woman
in the country that was my country
