Paula Middlehurst | Sky News | Unit 1

Sky News Viz Tease sequence, two video inputs, but with a timed pre-selected Aux input switch as the third tease flys in from behind. Teasing the Sky News website, followed by two TV teases. We also had a one and a two tease version.

This is the 2008 US Election re-skin of our normal blue look. The music was written especially for these tease sequences. Once the run command was hit the sequence was all on a Grass Valley Kalipso timeline and ran without the vision mixer having to do anything. The video clips were run manaully by the director, with cues helped by the punctuations in the music.

The first DVE push back is done by the Grass Valley Kalipso with a bespoke key signal on the viz scene which keys the Sky News logo over the DVE. Running the presenter squeeze back through Viz would have caused lip sync issues.

Before having what we called the "VM Viz" these sorts of sequences were compiled using a video and key clip on a "profile" and then I would painstakingly match the DVE moves on the Kalipso, usually spending many overnights key framing the moves. This project signalled the move away from DVE matching and progressing onto a system that could match exactly what the designers built.

The Viz was controlled using PBUS commands sent out the Kalipso and then converted using a computer which was oringinally developed at ITN.
