Even without translation and subtitles, British and American TV audiences knew Edith Piaf was singing about happiness, a rarity for her. She had just recovered from two auto accidents in cars driven by her lover singer/songwriter George Moustaki, and had to have her lip sutured which accounts for the heavy make-up and medication. Another lover Norman Glanzberg wrote this song in 1948, lyrics by Jean Constantin. Yves Montand recorded it in the 50's at theTheatre d'Etoile .
