No longer "la Mome Piaf" purveyor of " la chanson réaliste" but now an international star of popular music, this is how we find Edith Piaf in 1959. Even without translation and subtitles, British and American TV audiences knew Edith Piaf was singing about happiness, a rarity for her. She had just recovered from two auto accidents in cars driven by her lover singer/songwriter George Moustaki, and had to have her lip sutured which accounts for the heavy make-up and medication. Another lover Norman Glanzberg wrote this song in 1948, lyrics by Jean Constantin. Yves Montand recorded it in the 50's at theTheatre d'Etoile . Clips borrowed for global understanding and education are from the BBC documentary " I Regret Nothing" and 1950s American TV. Thanks again to philipchek of youtube and Paris for help with this translation.
