Brendon Goddard was a star for St.Kilda, and a proven big finals game performer. After being selected with the number 1 pick, he received a lot of criticism in his early years. He was building into a star performer when he suffered a serious knee in 2007 that sidelined him for 12 months. Once he returned in early 2008 he began to fulfil his potential and was in St.Kilda's best few players in the Grand Finals he played in 2009 and 2010. In 2010 he took one of the best marks ever taken in a Grand Final, and late in the last quarter he goaled to put the Saints in front for the first time with 6 minutes to go. Despite wanting to stay at the Saints, the club pushed him out the door as a restricted free agent to Essendon, in pursuit of an early draft pick compensation. Goddard played 205 matches for the Saints and kicked 104 goals, was runner up in the Trevor Barker Medal in 2009, and was an All-Australian in 2009 and 2010.
