This is something I scratched down in my notebook on the bus a couple of years ago. I realized recently that it would make for a nice fife & drum composition, and so this "Schützen-Marsch" ("Riflemen's/Snipers' March") was born. It was much inspired by the Austrian/Prussian military music of the early 19th century, during the Napoleonic Wars.

The image shows a group of Prussian Life Guard Fusiliers during the 1813 Battle of Lützen, remembered as the Battle of Grossgörschen in Prussia. It was painted by the German artist Carl Röchling in 1920.

Enjoy!
