The four jet streams, located at the tropopause, are the main drivers of the weather below. In this short film I make a strong case for another factor (in addition to greenhouse gas emissions), that may be driving an impending and possibly catastrophic climate change. I argue that there has been a dangerous turning of a blind eye towards the systematic (ab)use of the jet streams to speed aircraft flights from West to East. It seems that there is occult collusion between meteorologists who monitor the jet streams, especially the North Polar one, and the airlines that then use this data to place aircraft strategically to increase ground speed. It is as if the jet streams exist solely to reduce airline costs!
In the first version of this film I made a careless mistake in my calculations, but this is corrected in this one. Of course the effect of the flight of one aircraft on the flight of the jet stream is trivial, but with 2,500 commercial jets flying across the North Atlantic each way, and some 30,000 commercial flights across the USA each day, there is no justification for ignoring the resulting physical effects. This is not to say that greenhouse gas emissions are unimportant; but every action has an equal and opposite reaction (Newton's Third Law of Motion), and the consequent cumulative physical effects on the drivers of our weather have simply been ignored. It is well accepted that the jet streams are misbehaving increasingly of late. So surely proper prospective and published scientific research is therefore urgently needed to examine this important question?
