When a Lakota (Sioux) child enrolls at St. Joseph’s Indian School, it’s because their parent or guardian has decided that St. Joseph’s is the safest and best place for them. It is an enormous honor when families look at our school and programs and know this is a place their children will grow — mind, body, heart and spirit.

But, we feel an entirely new level of gratitude when those same children, who’ve grown up to be adults, choose St. Joseph’s as the place to spend their adult careers. It is not uncommon for students to return as houseparents, support staff and program leaders. It is a decision entirely their own — to come back to the St. Joseph’s family and give back to a place that gave them so much earlier in their lives.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to one of our alums who came back as an adult in the following video series! His name is Trinity, but you can call him Trin. You might recognize his face from a mailing, a social media post or two, or even a St. Joseph’s billboard advertisement during his time as a student. Now, he’s employed at St. Joseph’s as a carpenter who, quite literally, helps hold our campus together, as it once did for him when he was growing up.

We hope as you listen to Trin tell his story, that you feel our thankfulness for you shining through. Programs and services at St. Joseph’s — the building blocks of our work — cannot happen without your kindness. Trin is our mission full-circle, and his story happened because you opened your heart to Native American children in need.

Wóphila tȟáŋka — many thanks — for your support of all the Lakota boys and girls at St. Joseph’s Indian School!

St. Joseph's Indian School, an apostolate of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, partners with Native American children and families to educate for life -- mind, body, heart, and spirit.
